Plus Sides of Bubblews $50 Redeem Limit Upgrade

You probably know that the new redeem limit at Bubblews is $50 instead of $25 as it always has been. I've read a gamut of feeling both ways. I'm chiming in on the plus side. I think it's going to pay off huge in future. The pluses: Most sites I've written for have scheduled payout times. Users cannot randomly request funds. Or they have higher cashout limits to meet before requesting funds. So this change just reflects industry standard.

Install Bathroom Fixture Wall Mounts for Towel Bar Correctly

Our downstairs bathroom remodel is finally done! Wootie-woot! There were parts we opted to do ourselves to
save money. Like installing new towel bar and toilet paper holder. No need to pay someone for what is essentially a three minute job. Or so we thought.

Poor husband called me in for assistance with the toilet paper holder. He'd done everything correctly, measured, lined up holes, sunk dry wall anchors, attached wall mounts. He even read the directions.  Install Bathroom Toilet Paper Holder, Towel Bar Correctly

Hand-Made Advent Calendar

I converted to Catholicism in 1996. A favorite parts of my new faith was the season of Advent. This season, like Lent, is penitential, involving fasting, prayer and almsgiving, in preparation for Christmas. We tend not to think of advent as a penitential season as we are surrounded with Christmas. In actuality, Christmas historically and around the world is celebrated for 12 days following Christmas day, up to Epiphany. When I home-schooled our four children we incorporated both traditions. We began our time of preparation on the first Sunday of Advent and worked on activities which brought our focus to Christ. We spent the weeks before Christmas practicing fasting, prayer and alms-giving in many ways. I made a large pocket Advent calendar to organize our activities, to track our work and to help the children count down to Christmas. I made it reusable from year to year. Here's how I made it.  Hand-Made Advent Calendar

Recipes to Use Up Leftovers for Clean Your Fridge Day

If you observe National Clean Your Fridge Day today, you'll be faced with a dilemma--what to do with leftovers. Make leftover food, if not sit up and bark, at least multitask with these recipes. Leftover food still has life left in. Often, as with fine wine, food gets better with age and in new incarnations. Chef Jacques Pepin showed how to make an awesome bouillabaisse with leftovers from his daughter's fridge. Here's my use-up recipe.   Leftover Use Up Recipes for Clean Your Fridge Day

Organize Medical Bill Pay Records, Insurance EOB to Avoid Hassles

I spent the entire morning on the phone and various websites trying to sort out a medical bill. Insurance paid its portion and I paid mine months ago, but the hospital sent it to collections. They had applied my payment to the wrong account, then didn't rebill me. They say they sent a bill but I wouldn't not have recognized it because it was for a different amount. And their website bill pay system is way over complicated, yet doesn't keep track of paid bills.

This is not the first time I've caught them in billing mistakes. So my advice is to keep careful records. Cross-reference insurance EOB with all orginal bills. For more ways to navigate medical billing, read on I Think My Head is Going to Explode

Teen Writers Earning Income on Bubblews, Youth Freelance Opportunites

Several months ago, my teen daughter began writing for Bubblews. I alerted staff so they would know that the two accounts from one household were in fact, two separate users. Bubblews allows teen users. But neither of us ever let on that we were related. Well, now, seeing the all awesome family duets proudly acknowledging and sharing their outside-Bubblews connection, I felt a little sad and left out. I want the world to know who my little Bubbler is. Reading her writing fills my Bubbles with such joy and pride I feel they might burst!

Here's how Bubblews works for my teen and how it can work for yours. Freelancing and blogging are great writing prompts for students. Homeschoolers and teachers, use for lesson plans.

Multitasking Meals, 2 For 1 Cooking for Dieters

I just weighed myself and was surprised to find I'd lost another pound. That brings the grand total to 89, with 11 left to go. Let's talk about cooking for dieters. I do most of it and don't have time to fuss over special meals for myself. And I'm too cheap to spend a couple of bucks for a 9-ounce diet frozen dinner So I make similar meals, cooked in the same pan, tweaked with low calorie options for me. I call these 2-4-1-meals --double the work accomplished for half the labor. Saves on dishes, clean-up, utilities and money, too!  .2 For 1 Cooking for Dieters, Steak and Portobello Mushroom Burgers

Cross-Linking Posts to Blogs and Blogs to Post Drives Traffic to Articles

I've been writing for Bubblews since June. I have been writing online for eight years. I'm also a manic blogger (56 at last count). I've been writing articles and linking to snippets with backlinks to my blogs. I also list and link relevant blogs on my articles. People have questioned that this is a referral or affiliate link. It's not, as I've explained here.  Confirmed--Linking Posts to Blogs and Blogs to Post Drives Traffic to Bubblews

Earn Money with Bubble Pulse, SEO

Do you write for Bubblews? You can earn some respectable residual income there. Teens can write and earn too! So if you do, you might be wondering what Bubble Pulse is. It's those words and phrases you see with plus signs in front of them. They are the topics or keywords covered in the post. When a plus is added, words become links connecting other uses of that word. Sometimes they're called tags.

Using Bubble Pulse is part of SEO (search engine optimization). It's how writers drive readers (page views, likes) to their content. Search engines index (organize) content according to keywords searchers type in. The higher on the search result list, the better chance a piece has of being read.

Think Series Not Just Articles When Writing Freelance

Tip 'o the mornin, to ye, fellow +Bubblers --what's that? I misspelled "top"? Nope! I meant to. That's the name of my newest series +Freelance-tip-o-the-mornin and it's also my first tip. Think series when you write. Don't squash all your good idea eggs in one teeny-weeny basket. Give them room to breathe and grow.

You may have read my comments on your article "this would make a good series." I'm not suggesting you're doing anything wrong. I'm complimenting you on writing so much good information that each idea needs its own URL!   Logo comes from Bubblews, new highly addictive paid writing site I found. Freeelance Tip O the Mornin--Think Series

Where Do You Get Writing Mojo When Your Body Says Sleep?

I need advice. Where do summon mojo to write when you're body says "sleep!!"? I'm trying to get on a fall schedule from up-late, sleep-late summer. My husband works nights and most weekends. When we do get time together, we enjoy it--often staying up too late at night. It's good for him to keep his regular night schedule on weekends.  Be that as it may, it's hard on me. Where Do You Get Writing Mojo When Your Body Says Sleep?

Back-to-School Early Bedtime Transition from Sleep Late to Up Early

I think sleep schedules must one of the most challenging issues for families. Though most parents and kids prefer school structure, it's that summer-to-fall schedule transitioning that's hard. Contrary to a popular myth I'm hearing more frequently, kids need lots of sleep. And it's lack thereof that's largely responsible for problems in health, emotional, discipline and schoolwork. Here are ways to move into an earlier-to-bed routine. The secret is organizing and controlling what happens in that time before bed. Back-to-School Early Bedtime Transition Tips for Kids

Blended Families, Older Children Are Not In Loco Parentis

I'm the eldest of six, between two blended families. I'm the only child of my parents marriage. I always wanted siblings. Before mom re-married, she had foster kids whom I loved. At 11, I did a lot of care with the little ones, including one who was very handicapped and the baby of one foster girl who came pregnant. But when a teen boy came, that didn't go so well for me. He had to leave and I grew up pretty fast that summer.   Blended Families, Older Children Are Not In Loco Parentis

Family Glue Recipe: Balance Work, Time and Connecting

I'm not particularly talented in craftsy arts...couldn't crochet a row to save my immortal soul, wouldn't know a quilt stitch from a suture. But one domestic art that I do take pleasure and pride in is cooking. Now I'm not rabidly DIY. I love to create my own recipes. But I don't insist on honey from backyard bees or peppers I've grown from seedlings harvested from last year's crop. I'm not above using a few canned and boxed products. Here's the how and why. Organize by Slowing Down: Work Smarter, Relax, Feel Better

Hi my name is Mar and I'm a recovering workaholic. Since childhood, I've been an obsessive-compulsive, Type A over-achiever. This hurts me, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically. It kills relationships. It makes me a bad mom. So I'm practicing ways to work smarter, not harder. Ironically, I accomplish more this way. Most importantly, I feel better. Here's how.

Accept your worth. We overachievers often overdo to compensate. We lack confidence. We think others better than ourselves and so to succeed competitively we must give 500 percent. We aren't relax lest we fail. Recovery means recognizing I'm okay, as is. Here are more lilac zen thoughts for you! Stop Overdoing It: Work Smart, Relax, Feel Better

Third Bubblews Redemption, Only Started Two Weeks Ago

I started Bubblews about 2-3 weeks ago and already I've hit redemption three times. I was on vacation over the 4th of July and did't write for four of those days. One payment cleared Paypal. The other two are pending. The one that cleared did so early. I don't say this to brag.

I said I wasn't going to write a lot about in-house stuff on +Bubblews--when I hit redemption, when payments came through. But I'll share this as it may help or encourage others. Here's why I think Bubblews is working for me. Third Bubblews Redemption, Only Started Two Weeks Ago

How to Add Photos to Articles, Easy and Legal

A picture is worth a thousand words, they say. It can also be worth a lot of page views. I have over 5,000 pieces of content published on line and the simple math says those with photos do better than those without. But hunting up photos is tedious. And you have to make sure to comply with usage rights, which can be nebulous. Writer Burnout First Aid: Words of Prevention Equal Pages of Cure

I've been writing since I was old enough to form letters. I've taught English and creative writing. I've blogged and freelanced professionally since 2005. Of all writing occupational hazards, writer's block is the most challenging. A word of prevention is worth a page of cure.

* Identify feelings. Writer's block, burnout, call it what you will, that stymied feeling is nebulous and deceptive. An apparent mental clog may spring from physical issues and vice-versa. It manifests like general burnout. Help Guide says dread, anxiety, depression, apathy, emptiness, despair and exhaustion characterize it. Writer Burnout First Aid: Words of Prevention Equal Pages of Cure

Debt-Free, Solvent, Unemployed: Earning Sustainable Income Online

When I tell people I'm an unemployed Michigan teacher, they show no surprise. But when I tell them I manage a family of six debt-free with no government assistance, they do. Their first question is: how?! My husband works a traditional job with benefits and I freelance and blog. Here's how work-at-home earns enough to keep me out of the job market.

Educational savings: I went back to work in 2005 after homeschooling for 10 years. I worked in a preschool/daycare because I hadn't yet renewed my teaching license. I made $300 a week. After license renewal, I couldn't find full-time teaching job.  Read more Debt-Free, Solvent, Unemployed: Earning Sustainable Income Online

Step Out of the Job Hunting Market; Think Divergent Employment

Unemployment is decreasing. Jobs are being created and the economy is improving. Or so we hear. I think such optimism premature and fanciful. Personal experience has shown me the way solvency in this quicksand economy isn't job hunting, college or even working a traditional job. Survival requires proactive, divergent thinking. For me, that meant quitting the traditional job and working online. I'm not promising get-rich-quick gimmicks, but common-sense, forward-thinking earning and saving tips. Here's how.Step Out of the Job Hunting Market; Think Divergent Employment

Coping with Night Work, Third Shift Exhaustion

In 25 years of marriage, my husband has worked nights half that time. That's him on the left. Can you see the tiredness in his eyes? They don't call it the "graveyard shift" for nothing. Not only do you feel like a zombie when you're on that schedule, working nights for long periods will put you in the graveyard faster than many more-recognized health concerns. Third shift workers face added stress, depression an danxiety compared to those who work during the day. In 2011, the American Psychological Association listed concerns: "restlessness, sleepiness on the job, fatigue, decreased attention and disruption of the body's metabolic process." These affect safety, physical and emotional health and even relationships. Here are tips for third shifters to prevent burnout.   Coping with Night Work, Third Shift Exhaustion

Facebook, Social Media Impairs Real-Life Communication

Facebook and social networking are bubbles. They occupy a lot of time and airspace for a significant number of people. A spectrum of users interact instantly and globally. We don't yet know what all the impacts will be. From my own experiences, I see that digital interaction impairs face-to-face communication. Here's how. Distorted reality. We talk about having Facebook "friends" but that's a misnomer. Unless I know them in real life, for me, they aren't real. It's the easiest thing in the world to set up a fake profile. Kids can do it and I've known several who have. Unfortunately, adults do too. We go by aliases. We change names and pictures. We hide behind tiny thumbnail avatars. Our profile information is only as true as we choose to make it. I'm not saying people I know only online aren't real. They're just not real for me, nor am I real to them.  Facebook, Social Media Impairs Real-Life Communication

Keep Preschool, Toddler Children Busy With Free Activities

As a 10-year homeschooling mom of four, I know about multitasking with kids. The hardest age of child to keep productively occupied is toddler. Maybe I should rephrase "productive" to "occupied in parent-approved ways." Our kids were always productively employed, at least in their minds. From a parent's view it looked like mess-making. And during the holidays it only gets worse. More work, antsy kids, abnormal schedules, added events make it more challenging to keep a toddler in check. Here are parent-friendly, child-minder holiday activities. For free printables to occupy kids, click the "printables" keyword on this blog or check out my link blogs.
